Assembly x Skye Corewijn — espresso coffee cup and saucer

A hand-thrown stoneware espresso coffee set, designed for maximum flavour perception.

Skye Corewijn is a London-based potter who has worked with us on several occasions to create drinkware designed specifically for coffee.

Skye makes clean and simple silhouettes which emphasise the tactility of the materials used and always put the purpose of their use at the forefront of design.

For this cup, the idea to enhance the experience of drinking espresso was two-fold. The wide base allows for swirling in the cup, and an increased surface area accelerates cooling of the coffee and subsequent clarity of flavour.

The lip is wide enough to sit comfortably under a dual-spout group head but narrow enough to hold crema and the aromas of espresso. In our experience this shape enhances flavour perception for the drinker and adds to overall  olfactory enjoyment when drinking.
