Jimma Farmers Union
The Jimma Farmers Union was established to support smallholder farmers across the Jimma Zone in western Ethiopia. The Union provides the region’s producer cooperatives with training and technical assistance, financial management, marketing, and export services for their coffees.
Alongside, it promotes environmental conservation, and implements organic sustainable practices that promote soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity. Under the instruction of the Union, cooperatives are creating organic fertilisers using animal manure and discarded cherry pulp.
Coffees grown by producers within the Union are all processed with the same post-harvest methods. Ripe cherries are de-pulped, washed and then fermented in water. They’re then sun-dried before being transported to a mill where they undergo a final quality control stage to prepare for shipping.
This specific coffee exhibits plenty of the qualities associated with exceptional washed Ethiopians – prominent citrus flavours and a delicate, tea-like texture.
