Rungeto Farmers Coop Society

Established in 1953, the Rungeto Farmers Coop Society has grown to include approximately 3500 smallholder producers. Each working with around one hectare of land, they grow coffee alongside a diverse spread of vegetable crops which they cultivate to support their families.

The Karimikui factory, located in Ngairiama, within the Gichugu division of Kirinyaga district, is one of three facilities used by the society to process harvested coffee. The land surrounding the factory ranges from 1700-1900 masl and is blessed with fertile and nutrient-rich volcanic soil – ideal for growing high-quality coffee.

Throw in ample, consistent rainfall and conditions don’t get much more optimal than those in this region. The result is coffees that exhibit all the prized qualities of Kenyan coffees – prominent acidity, plenty of deep fruit notes and textures ranging from syrupy to zingy.
