Puerto Arturo

Historically, Alvaro Moises and his wife Karla have sold their coffees to more well-known producers who would then sell on as their own. That's changing and now they are bringing their own coffees directly to market, with huge success. A natural Pacamara lot of theirs placed in the Salvadoran Cup of Excellence 2020.

Puerto Arturo is one of the healthiest farms in the region, and you can look to Alvaro for reasons why. In the decades up to the beginning of the Salvadoran Civil War in 1979, the country had suffered extensive deforestation as land was stripped of its native fauna to make way for farming. As the conflict brought normal daily life to a halt, the land recovered. Virgin forests regrew and flourished.

After the official end of the war in 1992, concerned for the future of the forests, a group of people came together to form an NGO that would manage and protect under-threat nature reserves - Salvanatura. Alvaro is the former president of the organisation, and his passion for the Salvadoran ecosystem runs through Puerto Arturo. The farm is herbicide-free and there is a focus on rare varietals, primarily Pacamara and Bourbons.

We invite people we work with to taste coffees before they're released, to help define the tasting notes that inform the brush stroke illustration for the coffee. For this coffee, we invited We Are Common - Clapham Common's much-loved cafe, shop and wine bar.
