Luis Anibal Calderon
A second-generation coffee farmer, Luis Anibal Calderon has made himself a name for producing super high-quality micro lots of rare varietals. The inherent acidity facilitated by Huila's terroir is matched to Luis' progressive, impactful post-harvest processing techniques, and his coffees are prized for their fruit-filled flavour profiles, exceptional balance and delicate textures.
Used by competitors in the preliminary qualifying rounds of the SCA UK Brewers Cup Championship 2023, this coffee is a papayo varietal. Recently discovered and rarely found anywhere outside of Huila, genetic testing has indicated that papayo has a close relationship with Ethiopian landrace (formerly labelled as 'heirloom') coffees.
In the cup, we've found this coffee can have prominent notes of berry and papaya, with a deliciously syrupy texture.
