China Plate Espresso

by Michael Cleland

China Plate Espresso will officially open this Friday in the heart of Stoke Newington. The sleek new space sits on Stoke Newington High Street just a few doors south of the Church Street corner.

China Plate (Cockney rhyming slang for ‘mate) was designed entirely by owner Firat Guler. White washed walls and clean lines are complimented by the yellow hue of drop lights to create an atmosphere which is both modern in its minimalism and disarmingly hospitable. The focus point of the interior is the service bar which features as the centrepiece in a space which is gracefully narrow. Atop the bar sits an array of equipment reflecting China Plate’s uncompromising commitment to quality. Bespoke Water feeds a Synesso Cyncra which, with a Nuova Simonelli Mythos, will be used for the preparation of espresso based drinks. A Mahlkonig EK43T is the guest grinder and will also be used for filters to be made from the Uber boiler.

Assembly have been working exclusively with Firat and the team at China Plate to develop a coffee offering defined by progression and acknowledgement of its audience. Assembly will serve as house espresso while the full range of single origins are also available. In addition to coffee China Plate will boast perhaps the most impressive range of green teas available today in London. The team have worked closely with Postcard Teas to curate a menu including such rare teas as Master Luo’s Long Jing and Gyokuroesque from the Ishikawa family. The food offering, will 'evolve over time' and is produce lead with healthy, savoury options and a delicious waffle menu for those with a sweet tooth.
