Assembly Coffee Caps - Selected Espresso
Assembly Coffee Caps - Selected Espresso
Our Selected Espresso coffee caps give you a cup full of sweetness, creamy texture and rich crema. We use aluminium for our coffee capsules as we believe it is the optimal material for quality and consistency, and because of its possibility to be recycled infinitely if disposed of consciously.
Above all else, the aim for our coffee capsules is viscosity and sweetness. Coffee capsules can deliver exceptional nuance and delicacy for exotic coffees but our aim is to present a flavour experience that is defined by its intensity of sweetness.
Central American, and many Peruvian, naturally-processed coffees present vibrant fruit notes and mild florals that are amplified in coffee pods. And they offer the dense body and creamy texture that make high quality caps such a pleasurable drinking experience.
The coffee we've chosen - grown by Peruvian producer Fidel Huancas - is archetypal of this type of coffee. An expertly-controlled natural post-harvest process has amplified the inherent richness and sweetness of the bourbon varietal, offering a superior, memorable flavour experience.
The benefits of using aluminium
The most abundant metal in Earth’s crust and the third-most abundant element on the planet, aluminium is lightweight, strong, flexible and versatile. It’s used for everything from kitchen utensils to airplane parts, beer kegs to baseball bats.
It’s an excellent conductor of heat and electricity, odourless, impermeable (non-toxic) and even generates a protective coating when exposed to oxygen.
And, crucially, it retains all of its original properties when recycled. Which it can be, easily, efficiently and infinitely. Since the first mass production of aluminium in the 1880s, it's estimated that 75% of all the material ever produced is still in use today. And recycling aluminium requires 95% less energy, and produces 95% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, than manufacturing primary aluminium.
We believe there are five key benefits of using aluminium for our coffee capsules:
1 - It delivers the highest level of consistency and quality of any available material, with a low fail rate and a good amount of crema, even as the ground coffee inside ages
2 - It’s an abundant metal that is widely available and created within a low-cost, efficient infrastructure
3 - It’s infinitely recyclable – in the UK, aluminium’s journey from beverage can to beverage can is 30 days
4 - It’s kinder to coffee pod machines, as it requires less pressure to pierce than alternative materials
5 - It facilitates a much longer shelf-life than alternative materials, reducing waste.
For these reasons, aluminium is our material of choice for Assembly Coffee Caps. Read more about the benefits of aluminium on our blog.
Recycling responsibly
To help you recycle your Assembly Coffee Caps, we've partnered with Podback - a nationwide, not-for-profit service that makes recycling used coffee pods as easy as possible. While aluminium capsules have always been recyclable, their small size and the presence of organic matter (used coffee grounds) means they have often ended up in the waste stream of recycling facilities.
Podback offers a comprehensive solution to this. There are two ways in which used coffee pods can be recycled – a kerbside collection service and a drop-off scheme. The pods are transported to specialised facilities where the materials are separated from each other before being processed into closed-loop recycling streams - aluminium is reused as drink cans and car parts, and coffee grounds are used for renewable energy and soil improver.
Nespresso-compatible, infinitely recyclable and packed full with high-quality, freshly-roasted coffee, our Selected Espresso coffee pods give you a cup full of sweetness, velvety texture and rich crema.
